Sorting and Stacking

It's been a rough couple of days for Sibyl--she's got at least four new teeth coming in at once (could be more--she won't let us really look, and it's hard to tell if all the emerging tooth bits are from a single molar or two separate teeth).

When she's not moping over her sore gums, she's figuring out a few of her more systematic toys. She's getting the hang of the shape sorter (and can almost say "shape sorter") and suddenly understands the point of stacking toys and building blocks.

She's so excited each time she gets a shape through the right slot--often applauding her own effort--she forgets about the teeth for a little bit.

Favorite Word Du Jour

You can't see it, but the card says "helicopter," the coolest, most amazing word in Sibyl's world these days.

An Afternoon at the Zoo

Sibyl spent the afternoon at the zoo, exploring the petting zoo (where she was bitten by a duck--twice) and saying hello to the animals.

Soccer Star

We'll have to explain the handball to her eventually, but for now we'll call that a "throw in."

This week at the California Academy of Sciences, Sibyl waved to the fish and made sure everyone--kids and grownups alike--saw the fish.

Two New Cousins

This week Sibyl's Aunt Sarah had twins! Sibyl can't wait to teach them a couple of tricks.

Dressing Tina

This afternoon, Sibyl put a lot of effort into dressing her animals and dolls. (Notice that Catechism is wearing a raincoat in the clip--Sibyl had tried hard to press the raincoat onto him earlier, before giving up and letting her mom help out.)

This video makes Sibyl's mom laugh so hard she cries.

Head Waggle

Sometimes it means "No," but sometimes it's just fun.

Tire Swing

Playgroup friends Kailer, CJ, and Sibyl decided they were big enough to sit on the tire swing this week.

Sibyl has been watching videos of her cousin Leora a lot lately, and no doubt a couple have had a hand in this.

The insistence on playing with the knife, well, we'll have to chalk that up to lax parenting.

Math Cards

Today Sibyl's Pop dashed up the stairs announcing that he had "the perfect Sibyl toy." Sibyl couldn't wait to see what he had, and bounced up and down as he opened the box. When he pulled out one set of Doman math cards, she climbed in the box to investigate the other set.

Sibyl's enthusiasm continued as Pop ran through a couple of rounds of the first numbers. (She loves the word cards so much, it's no surprise these cards are a hit.)

Thank you, Nana, for sending the cards--they're clearly a hit. (And despite all efforts to refrain from testing her on the words, she's made it clear in the last day or so that she also recognizes "Dogma," "Catechism," and "shoes"--I'm detecting a pattern here.)

The Zoo

Last week, Sibyl was delighted to visit the zoo with Nana and Grandpa Charlie.

Sibyl Loves Disco Again

Today Sibyl and her mom went back to the toddler nightclub (okay, it's an afternoon club), Baby Loves Disco. Now that Sibyl is up on her feet, the event was a lot more fun as she got to explore wherever she wanted, meet lots of big kids and generally run wild for a couple of hours.

She was particularly drawn to the snack bar (all the animal crackers, grapes, and goldfish you can eat), the fancy artwork on the walls (the nightclub was built as a theater in the 1890s), and the books they had set out in the lounge area.
