More from Christmas, Round One

Dimitri Gets His Name

Thank you, Grammie, for Dimitri (the doll who can take a bath), and Aunt Leslie, Uncle Mack, and Julia for the bath toys. Sibyl, Dimitri, and the toys went straight into the tub first thing the next morning.

More Princess

Sibyl picked out a "party dress" for opening presents at home. Then she applied a few stickers. Then she got some beads in her stocking. Then came more princess stickers.

A Visit with Santa

The weather outside was anything but frightful, so Sibyl and her mom went for a walk to check out the neighbors' Christmas lights, including Tom and Jerry's house, the Castro's most amazing Christmas set up.

Sibyl did have a chat with Santa (with Mom--she didn't want to go up to him by herself), and he confirmed that she's been good this year, so things are looking pretty good for her stocking come Christmas.

Muppet Fans

Sibyl and Mildred enjoy a classic skit.

Playgroup Holiday Party

Today Sibyl's playgroup had their holiday party, giving their moms a chance to reflect on just how big these kids are now.

Sibyl's parents aren't completely clear on what she's doing with the rags, but it sure looks like an installation.

Yesterday, Sibyl's pop wrote "shoulders" on the Magnadoodle. Later, her mom erased it and wrote "knees." Sibyl erased that and drew this:

As she drew, she explained that it's "Head and shoulders, knees and toes," starting from the top.

The swirly part at the bottom right is "Eyes and ears and mouth and nose."

Watching Digraphs

Sibyl's parents may lose a few points for letting her eat supper in front of the computer, but sometimes they're big pushovers.

She Built It Herself

In the last week or so, Sibyl's figured out how to stack blocks.

Two Alphabets

Sibylese interpreters hear a clear "shin" and "gimel" early in this video, when Sibyl is looking at the dreidel. Sibyl's pop also reports that she had been reading the different names on the dreidel for a while before he grabbed the camera.

On a thrilling visit to the playground, Sibyl showed her mom just how high she swings when Pop is pushing.

Then she took a page out of Edmund Hillary's playbook.

Little Pollock

Another week, another artistic style.

In case the Sibylese isn't coming through, the song she's chanting goes like this:

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
Mama called the doctor, and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed

Four little monkeys...

And here's the resulting artwork:

Look, Ma, No Sleeves

Sibyl headed for the Randall Museum this afternoon, probably one of the fall's last warm, sunny days.

Elephants and Camels

Yesterday Sibyl (and her mom and pop) visited the Oakland Zoo to meet up with her friend Dahlia (and Dahlia's dad, Colin) and to see her first live elephants and camels.

Eating Alfresco

Pop took Sibyl outside to eat alfresco, just like Fancy Nancy.

Bounce Party

As if Halloween weren't enough fun for a weekend, Sibyl also went to a grown-up party, complete with a big backyard to explore (full of sticks and rocks), cool people to talk to, and a kitten mask to model.

The birthday girl (Sibyl's mom's friend Carrie) had even set up a giant bouncy house, which Sibyl tried with her mom and Auntie Karen.

Earlier this week at the California Academy of Sciences, Sibyl invented a game and made a new friend. video

Hava Happy Halloween

Party at the Randall Museum

Sibyl joined a zillion other princesses and pirates at the Randall Museum's Halloween party. The games were fun, but so were the rocks and twigs.

Her Father's Daughter

Today Sibyl impressed her Pop by eating and reading at the same time.

Ocean Beach

The sun was out in full force this weekend, so Sibyl and her parents spent an afternoon at the beach.

Fleet Week Air Show

Sibyl, airplane fan that she is, was thrilled by the jets flying overhead and making "circle clouds."

She even got to sit in a cockpit, which was also pretty exciting for her mom, who has a good bit of air show experience herself.

Just how many people will try to cram onto the 43 Masonic once the Blue Angels finish?

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Sibyl got up the nerve to try the swing at school for the first time today. (All the big girls were doing it.)

Painting Pumpkins

Today at school Sibyl made her first jack-o-lantern.

What's Your Name?

Sibyl's mouth is catching up with her brain. (So far this is a great thing, but her parents suspect the issue will be different when she's twelve.)

P.S. Thanks for the puzzles, Nana!

Big Girl on the Bus

Sibyl insisted on taking the bus home from downtown (as opposed to the train, which is apparently not as exciting).

Swimming Pool

Big Rocks

Sibyl spent the weekend at a wedding at Camp Cazadero, which offered all the sticks, pine cones, and big rocks a girl could want.

Grandpa Charlie's Book

Sibyl has taken a new interest in the Secretary of Defense.

First Words

Sibyl's parents aren't sure what she was trying to spell--or which side is up for these two--but assembling words is all the rage these days.

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Aunt Alisha Visits

Aunt Alisha taught Sibyl how to say "awesome" and then presented the perfect context for the word: a fantastic batch of homemade mozzarella.

Behind the Waterfall

At Yerba Buena Gardens there's a waterfall you can walk behind.

Naturally, a waterfall is going to inspire a special dance.

85 Degrees in the Shade

San Francisco had another day of summer, so Sibyl's mom set up her backyard pool.

Lower Case Letters

Mom and Pop have yet to get their story straight on what they're calling the vowels, but that hasn't slowed Sibyl down.

Thanks again, Nana!

More Magnadoodle

We're pretty sure she's saying "flowers" toward the end, but beyond that is anyone's guess.

Mousie's Stunt Ramp

Is she practicing her alphabet or drawing snakes? It's hard to say.

(In case you're wondering what she's saying, "shoop shoop" is Sibyl's mom's official term for erasing the tablet.)

School Party

Sibyl started at a pre-preschool this week, and right off the bat they had a party for the kids who are "graduating" to real preschool. The fairy princess was very exciting to watch, but a little intimidating, too.

Sibyl and Chloe

A little rain didn't slow down Sibyl or Chloe on their playdate at the Park Slope playground last week.

"She Looks Like a Belknap"

Sibyl had a wonderful time visiting Great-Gran (a.k.a. "GG") in Trenton last week.
