To commemorate the era in which Sibyl was born, her parents felt she needed the lolcat treatment.

Book Frenzy

So many new books, Sibyl wasn't sure which way to turn.

Thanks, Aunt Joy and Uncle Dave!

Curious George

A command performance.

Thanks, Grammie!

Sibyl now has three books with pictures of owls in them, and she pretty consistently tries to say "owl" when you say it to her.

This was her first time through her new Animal Sounds book.

Thanks, Aunt Ellen and Uncle Jerry!

Aunt Joy's Photo

Aunt Joy attached a photo of herself, Seth, and Hope to some of Sibyl's Christmas presents, guaranteeing that Sibyl would like the packaging as much as her gifts.

Holiday festivities have spanned the better part of the month (and the presents keep coming--it is still Hanukkah, after all).

Mom and Pop are in the market for a bigger toy bin or two.

Ball Popper

Sibyl goes wild for this very Seussian device.

Thanks, Amy, Yuliy, and Leora Diza!

Hosting Playgroup

Originally uploaded by
Sibyl and her mom hosted playgroup today. A lot of the kids were back East for the holidays, but William, Kailer, and Liam came over to play.

Kailer went to town in the jumper and demonstrated some fancy walker technique.

The babies are finally old enough to really play with each other and "share" a few toys.

A Message for Leora Diza

Sibyl's cousin Leora Diza is one year old today. Sibyl has a few things to say on the matter:

Watching Ravens (and a Magpie)

Sibyl introduced Grandpa Charlie to the Randall Museum's rescued ravens. (Nana came, too, but she had met the ravens before.)

Here we have it, Sibyl's first word.

Too bad Curtis goes by "Pop."

Jingle Bell

At playgroup today, Liam surprised everyone today with shiny, jingly Christmas ornaments. Sibyl loves hers.

Thanks, Liam (and Esther)!

Sibyl's latest obsession is books. She loves being read to--this has been true for a while--and will demand many encore performances. She'll happily insist on four rounds of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? before moving on to another.

Recently she's figured out how to open a book and turn the pages by herself, which is so much fun she forgets to play with her other toys.

Wall Hanging

Originally uploaded by
Sibyl was very excited to receive a beautiful wall hanging from her Aunt Ellen. Rumor has it that her cousin Leora has one, too.

Sibyl can't wait to put it up on the wall in her room, which reminds her parents that they're planning to convert a walk-in closet into Sibyl's room soon.

Christmas Tree

For her first Christmas, Sibyl got to pick out her own tree from Target. Naturally, she went for silver foil with built-in lights.

Originally uploaded by
Christmas started early this year, with the arrival of a walker/cart (or puppenwagen, as the German instructions called it) from Sibyl's Nana and Grandpa Charlie.

Clifford and Dogma have had a few rides around the room, as has Sibyl (only in public areas suitable for pedestrians, as per the instructions). She's figured out how to stand up alongside the cart herself and how to push it from behind, but not both at the same time.

Sibyl also inspected the tires, careful to avoid in den Rädern verfangen.

Sibyl Gets Mail

Originally uploaded by
Often books arrive in the mail for Sibyl's pop, and while their subject matter might be a little dense for a seven-month-old, they're often worth a good nibble. But things are much more exciting when Sibyl gets a book of her own.

Today she got a book her Nana made, called Raven. Sibyl was very excited to read the new book, a sequel to Worm and Mousie, featuring some of Sibyl's favorite toys.

Sibyl was so excited she tried to climb into the book.

Family Dinner

Originally uploaded by
Tonight Sibyl ate dinner with the family at the big table. She had little pieces of a rice cake while her mom and pop ate pizza. (Sibyl had sweet potatoes before the pizza was done.)

Sibyl's dinners are usually before Mom and Pop eat, since Sibyl's dinner is both messy and early. But eventually the plan is for everyone to eat together.

Now that she understands the idea of "finger food," Sibyl likes crunching on the rice cake bits, mushing them up, and generally making a mess. She actually swallows a little, too.

Another Party

This week, Sibyl went to a second Halloween party with her playgroup friends. She even won the prize for the most creative costume.

The babies didn't let their costumes get in the way of playing. As far as they're concerned, dressing up as a pumpkin could happen every day.

Halloween Party

For Halloween, Sibyl dressed up as a member of Team Zissou. She met her playgroup friends (three pumpkins, a monkey, a skunk, and a Tootsie Roll) at a party in the Presidio. She loved seeing her friends and had fun chewing on her rubber whale and ID card.

Even a brave shark wrangler like Sibyl can use the occasional bottle.

This week, Sibyl and her mom hosted playgroup. The babies had fun swiping each other's toys.

Kailer, Sibyl, and Liam checked out Mathias's book while CJ watched the chaos.

Fletch, Liam, and Liam (yep, there are two Liams) showed off their sitting prowess.

Sibyl went after Fletch's yummy pears. (Note that Fletch's mom, Marni, had already shared the pears with Sibyl--apparently she wanted even more!)

Big Basin

This week Sibyl and her parents spent the night camping at Big Basin, near Santa Cruz.

Sibyl particularly enjoyed playing with a flashlight lantern at 6 AM and a morning stroll through the redwoods.

hope, sibyl, and grammie
Originally uploaded by jkollmer2
Sibyl had so much fun hanging out in Mexico with her cousins, aunt Joy and uncle Dave, and Grammie.

She got to play in the pool and splash about on the beach just on the other side of the house.

Throughout the week, there were jokes that only she and Hope understood, and a few secret nods with Seth as well. The grownups were baffled, but what else is new?
